A review of Cargo Cafe in Barcelona as a digital nomad on the hunt for friendly places with good coffee or food and remote-work suitability.
I arrived in Barcelona on a long weekend so the human-sized city was quite sleepy at 10am on a Sunday morning. But, had about 48-hours and a coffee mission to complete, so I dragged my fellow travellers with me in search of a good independent coffee shop.
Cargo Coffee is near the Barcelona city centre, but on a wide shady street with a wide pavement. Unlike Satan’s Coffee Corner, it is located outside the old city’s narrower arteries.
The walnut furniture and interior gives a sophisticated city accent that is toned by an approachable vibe. Cargo Coffee was where I could try N0mad Coffee’s beans short of going to the cafe itself (closed over that specific weekend). This establishment is drinks focused with more caffeinated drinks, health juices, and bar items than food items so we didn’t dwell too long after finishing the tastings that morning.
My cortado packed a refreshing acidic punch, though I somehow felt the milk didn’t quite blend as well as it could have. The flat white had well frothed milk, though as usual was too weak for my tastes. The drinks are great value though €1.70 and €2.00 respectively.
The fresh pressed spinach, pear, apple and lime juice had a nice amount of fibre with just the right balance of pear and apple to be addictive. It was sipped up within minutes.
Their Story / What I like About Them:
I’m not sure if he’s the owner, but the barista who was there spoke excellent English and shared with us that he was from / spent a significant amount of time in the UK. He was very professional in serving all our drinks and went about his business after some friendly banter.
I don’t know the story behind Cargo Cafe, but it seems to have closed shortly after I went in the spring of 2017, which is a shame because I think it was a favourite hang out for frequent visitors and locals.
